The Noble Maritime Collection will present Nellie Bly: Around the World in 72 Days, a slideshow and lecture by history buff Gerard Thornton.

Thornton will present the story of 25-year-old New York World reporter Nellie Bly, whose voyage on the luxury ocean liner SS Augusta Victoria in 1889 marked the beginning of a 72-day journey around the world.  The event will take place on the 130-year anniversary of the start of Bly’s journey.

The lecture will include a slideshow presentation and discussion.

Admission is $5 at the door.

The museum’s public programs are supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council and Councilwoman Debi Rose, and Investors Bank Foundation.

The museum is open from 12 to 5 PM, Thursdays through Sundays, and admission is by donation.

The Noble Maritime Collection is located in Building D at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, New York.  To learn more, call (718) 447-6490 or visit www.noblemaritime.org.
