ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Tompkinsville is a neighborhood in northeastern Staten Island. Founded by former U.S. Vice President Daniel D. Tompkins and once the site of a Naval Frontier base, it faces New York Harbor between St. George and Stapleton.
Tompkinsville offers a variety of cuisine, art, and entertainment attractions, including the popular Flagship Brewery. The neighborhood comprises mainly single-family homes built in the early 20th century and maintains an appealing commercial node around Tompkinsville Park. In addition, it sustains a vibrant music and arts scene with venues taking part in the north shore's Second Saturday art walk.
The neighborhood is demographically and culturally diverse and is home to one of the largest Sri Lankan communities outside of the country. The Little Sri Lanka in Tompkinsville has a fast-growing culinary reputation.
"With the Neighborhood 360 degree program, we invested in the future of key commercial corridors and now, the Commercial Corridor Challenge will go a long way to continue this momentum."
